Identify & Remove Extraneous Noises?

Post by KenO » Thu Feb 17, 2011 3:15 pm

Since I am new to Audacity, have been checking the Tips and Tutorials but have not found any information on how to identify and remove extraneous noises from live recordings.

Even did a forum search but also did not find anything.

Am very interested in how others have used Audacity for this.

Thanks

Ken

how to identify and remove extraneous noises from live recordings.
You usually don't. There are two main problems. By the time most people realize they need noise removal, it's too late. the noise has already overwhelmed the show and that's the end of the story. There was a poster this week that wanted us to pull a voice out of 100% garbage for a legal proceeding. We can't.

The other problem is the tools work on a very precise definition of noise, usually pretty much the exact opposite of what actually occurs in nature. The Metrobus driving by the performance is not noise and a TV running in the same room as the show isn't either, but the low, constant air conditioning rumble in the background of a lecture is.

Nobody can get rid of echoes.

So what's the show and what are the extraneous noises?
