how do i listen as i record?

how do i listen as i record?

i know this is a really easy question so i hope u dont get mad at me because im new to audacity and terrible with computers. while i am recording a mix, how do i listen to it through the program? because when i try to increase the output when recording it wont budge. ive looked for like 2 hours already and cant figure it out. thanks

If you really are using 1.2.x, its in Audacity > Preferences > Audio IO then check "Software Playthrough".

If you're using 1.3.12, it in the Transport Menu, Software Playthrough.

awesome thanks. i think that should work. i had hardware playthrough checked as i thought the mixer would be recognized as that.
