Super frustrated here.
On occasion, my computers (I have both PC and Mac) seem to loose or wipe out my LAME ENCODER. Don't ask me how, but I've had it happen several times and we all know it would take effort to get to that file's location and intentionally delete it.
So a couple of days ago , I tried to save a project and all of a sudden it can't seem to "find" LAME.......again.
Most times I've been able to re-install and continue.
THIS TIME:
NO problems with finding Lame on Audacity's website
No problems downloading it
No problem installing it and telling it where to install it so Audacity (or I) can find it.
BIG (and now unsurmountable) PROBLEM:
I CAN NOT get Audacity find LAMELIB as a recognizable file, once I start the search. I have downloaded (and uninstalled again) EVERY version there is and NOTHING works.
Audacity is geared up to look ******ONLY******** for "lamelib....."
I know I'm downloading the correct version for my processor and when it's all unzipped and saved to the H/D, and then I work with AUDACITY to export a file as mp3, then.....
............... I point audacity to the folder where I saved the lame download, but....
NOTHING brings me to a file that STARTS with the words "lameLib" when it's all said and done, as the program tells me to look for.
The downloaded/extracted/installed file is called "libmp3lame.dlyb" and it's GREYED OUT, so as to not let me use it. when I change my preferences, so as to have it look not ONLY for the exact file "lamelib", but to include 'ALL FILES', so that it can perhaps approach the saved file called "libmp3lame.dlyb", then my mac goes into pinwheel thinking mode forever, until I perform a hard shut-down.
Why?
what am I doing wrong?
I've done this several times and have no problem.
In fact I just loaded it onto my Macbook pro and everything went flawless (this of course was with the download that was made for the Intel processor).
Am I loosing my brain?
HEEEEELP!!!

Re: Audacity won't recognize LAME encoder program
The .dylib files are for Audacity 1.3.12 on PPC and Intel, and Audacity 1.2.x on Intel. You've posted in the 1.2.x forum, and if you are indeed using 1.2.x on PPC (your G4 powerbook) then you need a different version of lamelib.
If you are installing "Lame_Library_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX.dmg" from http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ then the installer should not give you a choice of where to install. It should go into /usr/local/lib/audacity without any intervention on your part, and Audacity 1.3.12 should immediately find it. This is my experience with Audacity 1.3.12 on a dual G5 running 10.5.8.
The correct version of the lame encoder for Audacity 1.2.x on PPC is LameLib-Carbon.sit on the same page as above.
