Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

No Sound from Speakers
I am new to the forum. I have used Audacity for some time, but have just bought a new Turntable. I can no longer get any sound from the speakers when using Audacity. The sound appears to be arriving as the meters show imput.3
Help!

Re: No Sound from Speakers
What computer and operating system and what version of Audacity are you using? What brand and type of turntable do you have? Is it a USB turntable?

Bill
5year old Dell, running Windows XP.
New version 1.2.6, that came with turntable--but first I tried the version I already had on the PC--and the problem was the same.
The turntable is a Soundlab professional GO56C and is a USB turntable
Thanks for your interest

Re: No Sound from Speakers
Thanks for the system info. Now it's time for one of the Windows XP users to chime in.
In the future you would probably get help faster if you post in the forum for your operating system and version of Audacity.

Re: No Sound from Speakers
I just moved the topic to the windows forum.
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

Re: No Sound from Speakers
You should open up the Windows Control Panels and make sure Windows knows to send music to the speakers. USB turntables sometimes mess that up.
Windows Control Panel

Same with Audacity. Open up the Preferences and make sure Audacity knows to send sound to the speakers.

Re: No Sound from Speakers
Thanks for all your help
I have now successfully managed to record from the TTable to Audacity and can playback the recorded music. What I still cannot do is listen to what is being recorded as it records.
The settings which allow me to do this are as follows:
Control Panel:Playback: SoundMAX Digital Audio
Recording:SoundMAX Digital Audio
For both the alternatives offered are: USB Audio CODEX
Audacity: Playback: SoundMAX Digital Audio (other options are CODEX & Microsoft Sound Mapper-Output)
Recording: USB Audio CODEX (Other options are SoundMAX & Microsoft Sound Mapper-Input)
Changing these appears to result in no recording being achieved.

Re: No Sound from Speakers
To listen while you are recording;
In Audacity preferences, Audio I/O tab, make sure "Software Playthrough" is checked.

Done that and SOLVED IT!
I'm sure I did that earlier in the process of getting it set up---but probably the other settings were different
Many many thanks
