1.3.12 beta problem finding/loading ffmpeg dll

Windows Vista SP2 32 bit, fully updated to today.

Audicity 1.3.12 beta (unicode)

Preferences/Libraries. FFmpeg library not found.

Error repeats six times as you press ok, eventually giving the Locate FFmpeg window. Point to avformat-52.dll and hit ok.

Same error six times again, and back to Audacity Preferences and FFmpeg library not found.

I've attempted running as administrator, and not, I've attempted various "compatibility" settings, and not.

No difference.

I assume you downloaded and installed Audacity following:

Please start Audacity again, try to locate FFmpeg in Preferences then open Help > Show Log and copy and paste the contents into your reply.

Note also please that I have re-downloaded the ffmpeg dll now about a half-dozen times. I don't THINK that I have a corrupt one.

Here is the log per your request

Thanks for the log. Unfortunately the ffmpeg.dlls can conflict on load with those of other instances of ffmpeg on your computer. We've never really got to the bottom of it, and the developer who introduced the ffmpeg feature is not currently active on the project. I note however you have lots of software and SDKs in your Path environment variable which could contain conflicting dll's.

There are several things you could try:

• If you don't need FFmpeg in other applications, search your computer for "av*.dll" (without quotes). That command finds any dll files whose name starts with "av". The FFmpeg files will be called avcodec*, avdevice*, avformat* or avutil* and you can delete them (except those in C:Program FilesFFmpeg for Audacity).
• If you do need FFmpeg in other applications, you could try actually adding C:Program FilesFFmpeg for Audacity to your Path and restart the computer, or open C:Program FilesFFmpeg for Audacity, copy all the contents and paste them into the "Modules" folder which should be inside your Audacity installation folder. When you restart Audacity after the paste, use the "Locate..." button in the Libraries Preferences to look for "avformat-52.dll" in the "Modules" folder. Both the above have been reported to work. I am not sure why the "Modules" directory might work except that it would be the working directory for recent Audacity Betas.
• Use FFmpeg at the command line instead to convert to or from your chosen format. The FFmpeg user docs are here
• If you are only interested in exporting from Audacity to FFmpeg formats, you can try the command line exporter in Audacity to send a command directly to ffmpeg.exe. This does not require Audacity to load the FFmpeg dll's through Preferences.
  - I would rename C:Program FilesFFmpeg for Audacity to something else for example
  C:Program FilesFFmpeg_Audacity
  - Launch Audacity, leave Preferences alone then click File > Export when you are ready
  - Choose (external program) in the "Save as type" then click "Options"
  - In the "Command" box, enter the path to ffmpeg.exe enclosed in quotes, followed by -i and - "%f" , for example
