Basically you beed to delete the .aup and the .au files and the folder that contains the .au files. In case you don't know the Audacity file structure I have put a brief summary below.

After all that, how do you delete those projects from the recent projects list of the File menu? I've tried right-clicking, searching all the menus, all the preferences, and I can find nothing that would even hint at the ability to delete items from the list.

Yup, as I said earlier there is nothing in Audacity that enables you to delete the projects files (as an ex-software developer/system designer I regard this as a serious omission).

So you have to turn to Windows Explorer on a PC (or whatever their equivalent is on MACs and Linux) and delete the files manually. Each project has a .aup file and a folder at the same filing level (the folder contains a cloud of little .au files which are the sound clips and the graphics - the .aup file contains the "recipe" for threading the .au files together into a coherent whole). So onece you have exported the finished project to WAV/MP3/whatever AND backed up the exported file (preferrably WAV if you think you might want to work on it again) - then you can delete the .aup file and its associated folder.

Yes, I've already deleted the files and folders, but those projects are still listed in the recent list of the File menu.

Yes but this is precisely because the developers have not implemented a Delete Project feature - as well as removing the actual files the programmers would also prune the recent files list with a Delete Project.

So there is nothing you can do about this (try opening one of the projects in the recent projects list and you will see it can't open it) unless that is you have the necessary programming skills and a bit of spare time - and fancy joining the development team to implement a Delete Project feature ?

Does anyone have a clue how close the next "stable version" is to being released?

I think it's geting pretty close now - last I heard the developers were trying to get it out in the early part of next year.

The latest beta versions seem to be getting pretty stable now. Part of the problem is the manual also still need some working on to get it into a fit state for 1.4 release.

The version I'm looking forward to is the next generation beta 1.5.x .....
