USB turntable help...please....

Post by punkbrent » Fri Dec 31, 2010 11:27 pm

I got a Numark tt-usb turntable for Christmas so I could convert my vinyl but I'm having issues. When I record/convert, it only records, converts in the right channel...nothing in the left? I've followed the manuals instructions on setting up the "audio preferences" and even followed the directions here...http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... turntables but it still only records in the right channel. I checked the usb connection over and over and I checked the needle cartridge as well and it checks out too....Any suggestions....help please!!

If you are only recording one (mono) channel, (rather than stereo with one silent channel), check in Audacity preferences that you are recording "stereo" ...

Presumably you've read/tried this ...
* Check the USB cable for tightness at both ends and try using a different cable instead
* Always use a spare USB port, not a hub

TTUSB FAQ

1. For Windows: On the bottom left of your screen, select the "Start" menu.
2. Select "Settings" then "Control Panel".
3. In the window that opens, select the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. (If you donít see a choice called "Sounds and Audio Devices," choose the "Switch to Classic View" option in the panel on the left of the window, and the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon should become available in the list on the left.
4. Select the "Audio" Tab at the top of the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel window.
5. Under "Sound Playback," choose your internal sound card as the default device. This varies by computer but should not be set to "USB Audio Codec" or "Microsoft Sound Mapper".
6. Under "Sound Recording," select "USB Audio Codec" for your default device.
7. Check the box titled "Use only default devices".
8. Click "Apply"...then "OK".

1. For Mac: Open your Hard Disk.
2. Open your "Applications" folder.
3. In the "Applications" folder, open the "Utilities" folder.
4. In the "Utilities" folder, open the "Audio MIDI Setup".
5. In the "Audio MIDI Setup" under Audio Devices, set:

* "Default Input" to "USB Audio Codec"
* "Default Output" to "Built In Audio"
* "System Output" to "Built in Audio"

Now, all programs will only use your internal sound card for audio output

... make sure that your RCA jacks are either plugged into an input device or not in contact with metal.

If the pin of the left RCA jack is touching the metal collar of the right RCA jack, or another bit of metal, it could cause zero left signal.

check the cabling, try other cables if you have any available.
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

And check that the cartridge is connected properly - all four pins should be securely connected (Do this carefully!). Also check that the hedshell is securely screwed home to the arm.

I think your TT also has RCA cables - if so can you connect these to a hi-fi or boombox to check thet the TT is delevering sound on both stereo channels.
