As for the RCA outputs, I'd expect them to contain only the computer output signal.
So much for "expectations". The RCA outputs on the Behringer UFO-202 contain a mix of the RCA inputs and the computer sound that is output through the USB connection. So the headphone output and the RCA outputs have the same signal.

And for those of us who want a better soundcard than that delivered in their PCs - and one that is isolated from the noisy electrical environment of a PC (especially laptops). Plus you get a device that is portable between all the computers that you now use (and future ones for as long as USB inputs survive).
Re the lack of hardware gain controls on the UCA-202: that is one of teh key reasons that I chose the more expensive Edirol UA-1EX over the Behringer device. Both were top of my shotlist but I decided that I wanted the input and output gain controls that the Behringer offers, plus the digital input that it also has was useful for my Minidisc transfers.
Note that the UA-1EX is now no longer manufactured (though some units are still available for purchase apparebtly) - it has been superseeded by the Cakewalk UA-1G.

If you recorded input in the UCA/UFO 202 and then cabled from the output to the computer, does the output contain the input? I guess most people use UCA/UFO because the computer has no line input, but if it did and the Behringer outputs contain the input, you could control the input level into the computer that way.
Are you talking about the headphone output? It contains a mix of the input and output signals. So, yes, you could cable from the headphone output to the line input of the computer and control input volume that way. But once you've selected the line input, don't you get volume control in the computer sound control panel? So what's the point?
Probably very little, because you could (for the price of another RCA > TRS adaptor) connect your input directly to the line-in anyway to get the same level control (with possibly more noisy sound in both cases due to doing the conversion to digital inside the computer rather than inside the Behringer then over USB ).
I've added/clarified comments on
Sound Card Reviews concerning lack of input control on the UCA/UFO 202.

That's becoming rather a long topic now and I can't find your recent comment.
On Ubuntu 10.10 the recording level of the UCA202 can be changed by the system volume control applet. This does not change the "gain" in the hardware, it just scales the signal that is sent from the the device.
I've not tested the UCA 202 with anything other than the default "plug and play" drivers.

And since it just scales the digital signal from the device my guess is that it would not help if the input to the UCA-202 is being overloaded. Same problem as when the Audacity input slider used to be able to do that - you think you've turned down and avoided distortion but you haven't.

Precisely the point I was making regarding "don't let the input get too hot"

The anchor link I provided goes straight to the first post (where the overall summaries are):

Thanks for the comments on controlling input gain with UCA202 on Ubuntu 10.10. I updated the post linked to above and the Wiki page. Behringer's own WDM/ASIO drivers only support Windows.
