Volume decrease w/low tones after a few seconds

Recording songs created on MC808 on hp laptop,songs w/low undulating tones seem to have volume chopped down after a few seconds of play..no effects used,is sound card not up to the job?and how can you tell ?what symptoms should occur w/sub par sound card?

It's not so much a sub-par sound card as it is a Windows laptop. Windows machines are designed for audio conferencing in a business setting, not recording your guitar solo.

First, you probably can't connect your 808 directly to your laptop. Most laptops have a very delicate mono Mic-In connection and no Stereo Line-In. You can get stereo line-in with a UCA202 USB sound card.

It's possible your laptop has a Stereo Line-In, but it's not likely.

Second, you need to turn audio conferencing off.

Thanks for the gift of your time Koz,...I tried to use a yamaha audiograme USB intereface w/cubase AI4 ,but couldn't get to record in stereo,,back to audacity,My HP G62 Laptop does record in stereo via 'mini' mic input jack...,input level are set low, @ 2.25 but it does work...,will look into settings you mentioned...is there a particular recommendation as to the best equipment for amatuer music production?

That question is too vague... What kind of music? Which (and how many) instruments do you want to record? (separately or all together?) Do you want to record vocals too? In what conditions? Do you already have any equipment? What's your budget? Without more details of what kind of show you want to record it's impossible to give any advice...
