The NTFS partitions are ntfs-3g but were owned by root. Since there is no reason for me to share my temp folder with windows I have selected my /home directory and all is well.
For now I will need to keep some NTFS partitions and a copy of windows installed on this PC since I am still fumbling around in Ubuntu. Removing both of those is my goal though.
