On the Mac side I use an application called Sound Studio that I really like. I now spend most of my time in the Ubuntu environment and would like to have the following questions answered.
1. In Sound Studio, when I press Option left arrow, I am taken to the beginning of the sound. Option Right arrow brings me to the end of the sound. Is there an equivalent away of doing this in Audacity?
2. When I Normalise in Sound Studio, I press F5 to bring up the Normalise window. Can I do something similar in Audacity?
3. In Sound Studio, if for example the right channel has little sound, I simply copy the left channel and paste it to the right channel. It's very fast. The way I am doing it now in Audacity is with the Channel Mixer plugin which takes me about four minutes to balance the sound in my file. I wish That I could just copy/paste the sound or is there another quicker way I should be doing this?

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.x.x package for your distribution or compile Audacity from the source code.

Re: Navigating Audacity
Regarding questions 1 and 2 you can customize your keyboard shortcuts on Preferences -> Keyboard
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

Re: Navigating Audacity
Actually, you cannot assign keyboard shortcuts to effects. However, since Amplify is near the top of the Effect menu, it is quick and easy to get at.
As for "beginning and end of sound", the Home and End keys will take you to the start and end of the project respectively. The j and k keys will take you to the start and end of the audio on the selected track.
See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... references
and http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... _Selection
To copy one channel to another (assuming you have a stereo track)
From the Track drop-down menu http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... -Down_Menu select Split Stereo Track
Delete the "bad" track by clicking the "X" at the upper left of the Track Control Panel http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... dio_Tracks
Select the entire "good" track by clicking somewhere in the Track Control Panel
Click on Edit > Duplicate
From the Track drop-down menu in the upper track, select Make Stereo Track.
Takes longer to describe than to do.
