Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Dell doesn't tell us what operating system you're running... If it's Windows Vista or 7 it's recommended that you upgrade to the latest beta 1.3.12.

You can download it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

THIS IS THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM

locate (lame for audacity)
"C:ProgramFilesLame For Audacity"

lame_enc.dll must be 371 kb
im sure its not~ so thats the problem~ your lame is corrupt~

find another copy of lame_enc.dll on the net
download to desktop
unziped to desktop
copy lame_enc.dll
go to "C:ProgramFilesLame For Audacity"
paste lame_enc.dll
replace

problem solved!!!!!

Thank you for your input but that is not a good idea. Lame for Audacity is a specific build that has been made to be compatible with Audacity. It is a common problem that other versions of Lame do not work correctly with Audacity. Lame for Audacity should be downloaded from the official download site as described here: http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3

That is not correct. There are two official versions of lame_enc.dll on the official download site.
One version is in the .ZIP package and is 372 kb (380928 bytes) and the other, from the .EXE installation file, is 248 KB (253,952 bytes).
Both versions work on the vast majority of Windows computers, though on a small minority of machines the larger version from the .ZIP package is required.

lame_enc.dll from the ZIP package may be "installed" by unzipping to any location, then "pointing" Audacity to the location as described in step 6 of the instructions.
The "more detailed instructions" recommend that when using the .ZIP version, the lame_enc.dll file is placed into the Audacity installation folder (normally at C:Program FilesAudacity).
