OSS and Ubuntu 10.10

Post by Gale Andrews » Sun Nov 07, 2010 8:26 pm

I'd just noticed in testing Al's fix for Bug 251 that SVN HEAD Audacity has no Devices Preferences choice of OSS host running Ubuntu 10.10. Al doesn't have it either under 10.10. It looks as if extra steps may be to get OSS to show up in Audacity under 10.10. But we want to be sure the PortAudio update that caused Bug 251 hasn't led to loss of OSS support.

Is anyone building SVN HEAD under 10.04 or some system where OSS is a host choice in Audacity?

Why would anyone be using OSS, or do you mean OSS4 ?

OSS is not an available option in Audacity 1.3.12 (beta) on Ubuntu 10.10
I've not tried any version of Audacity earlier than 1.3.12 beta as this is the version in the Ubuntu 10.10 repository.

I think OSS is available in audacity 1.3.12 on Debian Squeeze, but I'll check again in a bit...
I'll check for the svn version too.

I just confirmed... official debian package for audacity in debian squeeze shows OSS as an option on Devices...

Build from SVN also shows OSS (and ALSA), but JACK disappeared... but this may be due to the lack of some libs while compiling...

Thanks, Bruno, that looks OK then. Can anyone check on Mac that the fix hasn't caused any problems i.e. overdub recording works as ecpected?

To Steve, I mean OSS anything - the host entry in Audacity only says "OSS" as far as I know.

I can test it if a binary is provided (I don't currently have all building tools set up on the mac).

Yes, it just says "OSS".

The fix was committed right about the time the Mac nightly was built, so I am not sure if it is in the "2010.11.07-03.15 GMT" build or not. It should be in the next one, if you or someone could try that. The download page for the Mac "Nightlies" is http://www.audacity.homerow.net/index.p ... order=desc .

Thanks

Gale, just to let you know that I haven't tested this on the Mac because there hasn't been any newer build after that one...

Thanks for keeping tabs on it, Bruno. Richard has pushed the fix upstream to PortAudio and committed their latest snapshot including that and other fixes back to our trunk. So that should trigger a new Mac nightly you can try.
