How to fix bad recording

Post by zrankfappa » Fri Nov 05, 2010 5:35 pm

I have some recordings that have background noises. The noise removal helps some, but only when I highlight the whole section I'm working. If I highlight only the noise I don't won't ( like tv background noise) and profile it,then go back over the section I'm working on and highlight it and use the (profiled) noise removal, it sounds even worse, and gives strange noises on that section. what I'm I doing wrong?

I've also tried amping the section up, and going back over it using noise removal and profile it and remove and it usally sounds about the same as before I did it.

Anybody know any tricks that can help?

thanks

The problem is that a TV in the background is not "noise", it's a performer in your show.
"Noise" (in the sense of "Noise Removal") is constant low level background hiss or hum (such as you might hear when playing a cassette tape).
A TV in the background that is not tuned into a station so that you get a constant "shhhh" - that is noise. As soon as you tune the TV into a station, the performers on the TV become performers in your recording.

Thanks Steve,so what I really should have asked is how do I get rid of the performer(the tv) from the recording.

Once it's been recorded it is effectively "baked into the mix". Trying to remove it is like trying to take the milk out of your coffee.

@zrankfappa, is this the same question as http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 02#p110802, where you are posting to the 1.2 Forum? I just answered that, but it's very confusing if you post to different Audacity boards. Please post to the board for the version of Audacity you are using. If this post is the same question, a TV in the background can hardly be described as "static".
