Newbie question: how to get audacity to run?

Hello,

I compiled audacity 1.3.12. Then I tried to run it from the command line but it won't run. Below is the error message. Could someone show me or point me to a tutorial to get audacity started? Thanks (I just type ./audacity at the command prompt of my laptop, running Ubuntu 10.10. I don't have any special recording hardware or anything like that, just the laptop. I just want to see what the UI looks like first.) Do I need to disable certain things or do I need certain hardware to run this? Thanks again for the help.

Does Audacity 1.3.12 from the Ubuntu repository run on your machine?

Did you try installing the Audacity package on Ubuntu before compiling from source?

Hi guys,

Thanks for replying. I did not install audacity on my laptop. I got rid of the bluetooth errors by purging package bluez-alsa from my laptop (it's not bluetooth-capable anyway). The only error left is this:

Why don't you try first to install ubuntu's pre-compiled audacity package and see if that works?

From the command line: sudo apt-get install audacity
Or use your favourite graphical package manager, such as synaptic or other...
