having problems recording new tracks
Whenever I try to record a new track audacity records the layerstracks above it at high volume, what can I do to fix this besides silencing the older tracks?

1) Turn off "software play through" in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"
2) In the WINDOWS Mixer (near the clock in the lower right corner - a loudspeaker icon), select "Microphone In" or "Line in" or whatever you are using, but do NOT select "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix" as the recording input.
