Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Then it's not the same problem - the issue here is specifically with USB.
Check that your recording level is not too high - the blue wiggly waveform should not touch the top or bottom of the audio track (about half the height of the track is a good recording level). If that does not fix it, try looking in the documentation (see links in my signature) or start a new topic. It is highly recommended that you use Audacity 1.3.12, so if you have an old 1.2.x version, please update.

Interesting.

Well the only other thing I have plugged into USB is my mouse. I tried plugging the headset into a USB port as far away form it, no luck.

Am I just out of luck? Should I just get a stereo headset?

Thanks in advance for the responses.
