I downloaded audacity this morning. Exicted to put it to use, I attempted to record some streaming audio. The audio began and I pushed record. Like I said I am a newbie to audacity, what I am supposed to see when audacity is recording. So after the track completed, I tried to play it back. When I pressed play, no sound. What are the intial settings to achieve success using audacity. Please provide me a step by step specific instructions so I can begin using audacity.
Re: Newbie
It is highly recommended that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 - the old 1.2.6 version is no longer developed or supported.
During recording you should see the red recording meters react to the sound that is being recorded and a blue wiggly waveform appear on the audio track.
To record sounds that are playing on your computer, see here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recor ... e_computer
If you are using Vista or Windows 7 you will probably need to enable recording "Stereo Mix" in the Windows Control Panel.
Note: many modern computers do not support recording sounds that are playing on the computer, in which case you will need to use one of the workarounds described here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
