Recording lagging behind

Post by spearlymatt » Sun Oct 17, 2010 6:43 pm

I will record one track, and then another, and when I play them both back, the second is lagging by a full second or more. After finding this out, I hit record again, tapped the microphone, and the signal wouldn't show up for more than a second.

I'm running Ubuntu, but with the Studio package installed, and it isn't that my computer is being overworked (I don't think), I built it about a year ago, 4gb RAM, AMD 955 BE, etc.

Though, now that I think about it, the sound card is integrated. I'll have to borrow my father's interface later and see if that's the problem. But trying to get it to collaborate with Ubuntu seems like another slue of problems.

When I went to the preferences section, and set the buffer and the other setting down more, it seemed to help, but was very choppy, of course, and crashed.

I'm going to keep researching, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

EDIT: After trying again, the latency settings didn't change much at all. Also, the interface is the M-Audio FTU, which is not supported on Linux. I am not using Jack, the sole reason being because it confuses me to no end.

2ndEdit: I disabled track overdubbing, and it fixed the problem. Now the second problem, how am I supposed to record more than one track if I can't hear the first?

Are you using jack audio system or ALSA with Pulse Audio?
