Preview of Equalization with long filters

Post by DickN » Fri Oct 08, 2010 5:46 am

When previewing a long filter (on my computer that's Length of Filter > 6500 or so at 44100 sps), the filter doesn't keep up with real time and the preview is periodically interrupted. Buffer too short, maybe?

My guess is that it depends on the speed and efficiency of your computer and sound card.
I used to get that type of issue quite a lot on my old (500 KHz) computer, but on my new(ish) Aspire 5735 laptop it will play the preview fine regardless of the filter length. However, if I'm working on a project with a lot of tracks there will be a noticeable delay before playback of the preview begins. The delay will increase if multiple tracks are selected and is obviously due to the time it takes for the computer to mix the selected channels and create the (temporary) playback data.
