Wav file import problems

Post by IKhider » Wed Apr 23, 2008 2:01 pm

Greetings All,

I have extracted a wav file from a disc to work with, but I have trouble importing it into Audaciy. I tried the drag and drop option, but only get the file in mono once imported. I played the wav file on various media players and it is in stereo, so I do not know why it imports in mono only. I went under file, 'import' but Audacity says it does not recognize the file type. So it is strange that 'drag and drop' yields mono, but the import feature yields error messages stating it does not recognize the file. What do you suppose the problem is?

Thank you,

-I-

Audacity OOTB is set by default to record and work in mono.

To reset to stereo go to Edit>Preferences>Audio I/O> Channels and select 2 Stereo

Personally I've always thought the default was daft as we live in a stereo world - and have done for a long time ...

Hello WC,

Thank you for your reply. As it happens, my channels in Audio I/O are already in stereo. The file STILL imports in mono rather than stereo. I also still have the problem where under file>import>audio it does not recognize wav files (but does MP3). When I drag 'n drop I get the message "Audacity had to make a guess at the type of file. The Audio may be bogus. If the Audio is bogus, try renaming the file so that it has the correct extension before opening it." And then the file shows as mono.

Weird.

By the way WC, what part of Manchester are you from? I've been there in '06--it looks very much like Toronto. I bounced between Swinton and downtown and stayed at the Hatter's Hostel. Mancunians are real party animals, only place I've been where people actually have sex in the doorways. The best record shops in the world are in Manchester, around Oldham Road.

I had this problem until I removed the album art that I had embedded in the MP3 file. Apparently album art confuses Audacity.
