1.3.4 used to work. won't open. reinstalled-still won't open
Hi,
I've used 1.2.6, then 1.3.3 and updated to 1.3.4 some time ago with no major issues other than an occasional crash.
Yesterday, however, I was unable to load 1.3.4. It shows in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen but I cannot ever open it to use it. Right clicking on the icon in the taskbar does nothing. It used to offer options to minimize (or restore) it, or close it etc. Now - nothing.
I uninstalled Audacity via the Window utility and then did a reinstall, but still no go.
I closed all of the programs, did a restart on the computer, double clicked on the Audacity icon, but came up with the same result. Then I shut down the computer completely, let it sit for a little bit and then restarted it again, but once again with the same result.
Here is a clip of a screenshot of the resources being used by Audacity as noted by "Process Explorer".
Any help anyone could give would be most appreciated. -- Thank you.

Re: 1.3.4 used to work. won't open. reinstalled-still won't
The first thing that I would try, is resetting Audacity 1.3.4 by deleting the configuration file.
The file is called "audacity.cfg" and its default location is:
Documents and Settings<user name>Application DataAudacityaudacity.cfg
Audacity will create a fresh configuration file when you next start it.

That worked like a charm.

and if for some reason you can't find that file, you can right click on the icon (on the bottom bar) and click maximize.

It looks like you computer stoped responding (hang). Did you try to restart it ?JeffB said: It shows in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen but I cannot ever open it to use it. Re: 1.3.4 used to work. won't open. reinstalled-still won't
I currently have the same exact issue... it's not a matter of clicking 'maximize', the screen just doesn't appear... I'll open the program, it sits on the task bar, and never brings up the main window. Deleting the audacity.cfg seems to be the only way to fix it.
Re: 1.3.4 used to work. won't open. reinstalled-still won't
I had the same problem. Clicking on maximize works - for now. I'll try removing the cfg file later.
Re: 1.3.4 used to work. won't open. reinstalled-still won't
I've noticed that this issue can sometimes be created by rapidly clicking (more than 2 clicks) on the launch icon, resulting in 2 or more instances of Audacity trying to open simultaneously, and creating a kind of logjam, where the program appears on the task bar, but can not be opened or maximised.
I have real trouble with touch-pads on laptops, so being aware of this issue, when using a laptop I launch programs with "Right Click > Run" rather than "double left click".

Re: 1.3.4 used to work. won't open. reinstalled-still won't
I have the same problem with 1.3.5 . For a while I was able to use the program but after having a few crashes in trying to use noise reduction the system always seems to insist that there is another audacity program running. it shows in the taskbar but clicking on the taskbar item doesnt bring the program up to the screen. doing cntrl-alt-del says that the program is waiting for a response but there is nothing on the screen to respond to. 1.2.6 is co-existing with 1.3.5 but the latter is completely non functioning. I am using xp pro

getting rid of the cfg file allows the program to reappear -- that problem solved. thanks "stevethefiddle"
