Thanks Steve, I hadn't noticed that.

My initial experiments still can't seem to duplicate the brightness of a good clean input, but, thanks to the tips on head adjustment, I am now having to do much less 'clean up' than I was before, so it is not so important to play with the tone post transcribing on most of my new projects at least.

Excellent news!

On the tone control: what is the 'debug' button for?

Cheers,
S

Audacity 1.3 supports several different types of plug-ins; LADSPA, Nyquist, some VST and on Macs AU.
This plug-in is a Nyquist plug-in.
A common feature of all Nyquist plug-ins is that they have an "OK" button and a "Debug" button.

The Debug button is primarily intended for plug-in developers/authors. If the Debug button is pressed instead of the OK button, then any error message output will be displayed in a "debug window" after the plug-in code has finished running.

Occasionally plug-in authors may use the debug window for other purposes. (Using the debug output is the only way that a Nyquist plug-in can produce both an audio result and text output from a single run of the plug-in).

BTW, thanks for your feedback. In response I think I will set the normalise feature to a default of "off" and add a note to the help file re. memory usage.
