Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

It could be very useful if you could hang on with this for a while. We have never seen this problem before (out of millions of users), and if we establish that it is due to a bug in Audacity then it needs to be fixed. As you are the only person that we know that has found this problem, you are the only person that can help us to find out if it is an Audacity bug. If it is not due to a bug in Audacity, then it would still be very valuable to us if we could track down the cause of the problem - 1) because the problem can probably be fixed and you would then be able to use Audacity, and 2) we could then be able to advise anyone else that has the problem.

a very noticeable increase in volume, and possibly an increase of resonance as notes, particularly the last one, decayed.
but certainly not like the file i was originally working with.
Could you upload the exported version to the forum. By comparing it with the original file we may get some idea of what's going on here.

i think it might be more informative to send you the original track which is fairly lo-fi rendition of stairway to heaven, cropped from bbc iplayer.

actually, it's a big file, so i can zip it and host it somewhere.
let me know if you want a listen.
It would be more useful to have a "before and after" of a known good file. This is why we suggested importing then exporting the piano.wav file. If you export in wav format it should be virtually identical to the original. When exporting in a compressed audio format (such as MP3 or OGG) then it is normal for their to be some difference.

i redid the piano file, re listened, and found it is "virtually identical" to the original. that is not at all the case with the troublesome file in my original question.

have you tried again with the troublesome file? If not, open Audacity, import the file, but before you export as WAV, look in the "Project Rate" box in the lower left corner of Audacity. Set this to 44100 if it is not already set at that, then Export as 16 bit WAV.

it's 44100. dunno how to set it to 16 bit, it's just on defaults.

From the screenshots it is apparent that you are using Audacity 1.2.x. Upgrade to 1.3.12 http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac and see if your problems go away.

Export is greyed out in the new version.

edit: ok, it's mysteriously allowing me to export now.

result: much the same. maybe not so pronounced.

thanks for the help, but it's not that important to me, and i've lost interest now. life's too short etc.

thanks again.

Export will be greyed out if there is nothing to export. Import or record a file and try again.
