Recording - playback

Post by SAS » Mon Aug 23, 2010 7:12 pm

I bought a new computer with Windows 7 professional and downloaded Audacity 1.3. I've recorded from a tape deck, through a sound system, into Audacity. When I playback I get a little wawa type of sound. On my old computer with Window XP Pro using Audacity 1.2, I never had a problem. I don't know how else to explain the problem as I'm a techno-ignoramous. If I download a karaoke file and export the mp3 file and edit then playback, it's OK. It's only happens when I record from my tape deck. I've checked my settings and compared it to my old computer with 1.2. I don't know enough and just don't understand. Can anyone help???

Do you hear the wa wa when simply playing the tape--when Audacity is not even running?

Or do you hear it ONLY in an Audacity recording?

No, the tape is clean. I tried several different recordings thinking it might be the tape. I tried playing the tape deck alone through the sound system with no problem. I recorded those same tapes on my old computer with audacity 1.2 with no problem. The problem is with Windows 7 and Audacity beta.
