I know you are really good with Audacity and I have a problem on my hands. I have my electric piano hooked up to my amp. From the amp, I have a wire running from the output into the input on my computer. Now when I record from the input in audacity, it picks up the sound, but it maxes out in the middle, instead of allowing the blue wave to extend to the borders of the box. You see? Why does it max out right there instead of extending to the rest. Because it maxes out at a low frequency, it sounds pretty bad when I listen to the recording. I have messed with all the preferences but I just cant fiqure it out. I would appreciate it a ton.

You don't mention what kind of soundcard you're using, but my first suggestion would be to check the input settings in the mixer control panel for your device. It may be that the input level is being limited there (assuming that the input level in Audacity is at maximum).

No, its not a problem with the mixer from what I can tell. I just have the stock sound card that came with my computer. I have a GT5238E Gateway with Dual Core. Its not too old. Maybe 2 years at max. Is a sound card a big part of that? It was still maxing out when I tried again in the center.
