I first make a recording and when it is finished, I save the recording to file. I then replay the recording within Audacity to here the audio, but when I select a feature in effects, all are greyed out. What steps should I take to enable the features? How do I select " Audio " first as stated in the help section? I love this program as it recreates the exact sound recorded from source even using a cheap mono mike. I want to be able to learn more and be creative. I also have it installed in my Linux setup, but for some reason, my ability to record with micro phone is also Greyed out..But I will address that later..All help appreciated..Thank you, John

I read the help section and it stated to use the effects feature, you must first select audio??? I am not sure what direction I should take to select audio.

Re: enabling the effects feature
As it says in the Frequently Asked Question, after choosing Selection Tool, which you do by hitting F1 on your keyboard, click and drag in the track to select the part you want to apply the eftect to. Or to select all of the track, click Edit > Select > All (or hold CTRL on the keyboard and hit A). Selecting "all" still works even if you have selected another Tool.jhaskins75 wrote:I read the help section and it stated to use the effects feature, you must first select audio??? See this Wiki page. If you still need help, please start a new topic in the appropriate Linux forum according to what version of Audacity you are using (see Help > About Audacity for the version). State if this is a build supplied by your Linux distribution and what distribution that is (for example, Ubuntu).jhaskins75 wrote:I also have it installed in my Linux setup, but for some reason, my ability to record with micro phone is also Greyed out.
