Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

slow progress. I was able to record both sides to an album, but three things happened. First, only the second side was saved. I knew enough to [pause], not [stop], second, realized there was a mic somewhere, because along with the music, it recorded my cat and other shufflings. and third, in trying to link the recording to itunes, I got this:

warning

project check detected 752 missing audio data blockfile[s] (.au)
probably due to a bug, system crash or accidental deletion. There is no way for Audacity to recover this lost data automatically; you may choose to permanently fill in silence for the missing data, temporarily fill in silence for this session only, or close the project now and try to restore the missing data by hand.

please select an action:

0 replace missing data with silence (permanent immediately)

0 temporarily replace missing data with silence (this session only)

0 close project immediately with no further changes

You posted in the Audacity 1.3 section of the forum. Are you really using Audacity 1.3?

Audacity > About Audacity

Audacity 1.3.12??

If it says one of the 1.2 versions of Audacity, then you need to download and install 1.3.12...

http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac

Modern Macs do not support Audacity 1.2.

The other way to get insanity like that is to start running out of hard drive.

From the desktop:
Go > Utilities > Disk Utilities > Select your system drive.

What are the Capacity and Available numbers from the bottom of the window?

you may be on to something. I have downloaded and installed 1.3.12, but when I tried to open and run the music I got this message:

<<CAN'T OPEN PROJECT FILE

this file was saved using Audaciry 1.3.12 beta. You are using Audacity 1.2.5 you need to upgrade to a new version.

Sooo, I opened the Audacity program in the 1.3 version and got this:

warning

project check detected 752 missing audio data blockfiles (.au). probably due to a bug, system crash or accidental deletion. There is no way for Audacity to recover this lost data automatically. You may choose to permanently fill in silence for the missing data, temporarily fill in silence for this session only, or close the project now and try to restore the missing data by hand.

O temporarily replace missing data with silence (sis session only)

O close project immediately with no further changes>>

I don't think we're trying to rescue the show any more. That was created using a known unstable version of Audacity and may be permanently damaged.

How did the Disk Utilities test go?
