wave is really small

iv recorded my guitar and kept the recording level to -24 db but the waveform is really small. what am i doing wrong?

-24 dB will show up very small because it is a very low level. A good level to record at is with the peaks reaching about half way up the track display, which is equivalent to a peak level of about -6 dB.

The meter toolbar can be grabbed with the mouse and moved around and stretched by clicking and dragging. If you stretch it out to the full width of the screen it is much easier to read the levels while recording.

thanx that works much better. not all of the advice on here is good advice.
