random static for a few seconds only

Post by discokid » Wed Jul 21, 2010 12:22 pm

Hi all, this little problem is killing me. I'm trying to simply record from my vinyl -> Serato (USB) -> laptop. I get a perfectly clean signal, but every 7 or 8 mins there's a bit of static in the recording, about five seconds long.

I've disconnected the powerpack to eliminate that as a problem. No idea what else could be causing it!? Anyone?

Perhaps some background software is kicking in "every 7 or 8 mins" and causing the problem ... http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Troub ... ings#Skips

You could try disconnecting your computer from the internet while you're recording the vinyl,
(a programme such as email or antivirus could be accessing the internet every 5-10 minutes and causing the glitches).
