I installed the 1.2.6 on my XP SP2, but i get the same problem, the recording sorce is grey eg. i cant choose whether id like to record from a mic or line in etc.
I have an onboard 7.1 sound with realtek HD audio manager utilities. Plus i get ATI HD Input option on my audacity preference.
System: AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2 g o RAM, Gygabyte M52L-S3.
But the same program works fine on my IBM T23, which has also XP SP2. and it has an AC 97 drivers...
Same problem, but on XP

Re: Same problem, but on XP
I've had this happen to me, it seems to be connected to whether or not the usb from my mixer is plugged in.
when I'm recording from the mixer, (98%of the time) selecting it as the source in the preferences menu works fine, and recording is no problem. When I do want to rip something as a sample from another source I switch the mixer off and restart audacity and I can select whatever source from the drop down menu.
What is it you were trying to record?

Re: Same problem, but on XP
i cant record anything, it was inoperable from the start.
after the install, there was no possiability to change any input source.
i uninstalled and reinstalled, but no affect
also i usually rip music from internet and sometimes from games.
But i think there is something wrong with my system because Nero recorder doesnt work either.
but for some reason i can record media from the internet with Freecorder.
so i think there is something wrong with the program.

Realtek is a real Pain in the arse...
Anyway, when the Realtek HD Audio drivers are installed, the default is to mute the Realtek HD Audio Input in the Master Volume Control.
For audacity to be able to record you need to open the master volume controller.
Under the options tab click properties.
You should now see Mixer Device, and it should have selected "Realtek HD Audio output"
you need to select "Realtek HD Audio input" and make sure all the boxes are checked.
Next click "OK" and now at the bottom left of your Master Volume Controller, you should see "Realtek HD Audio Input"
Make sure mute all in the "Recording" column is unchecked and the "Stereo Mix" column is not muted.
Hopefully this helps. You will have to mess with the volume settings to make sure all is well, but this got everything working for me

I still have a problem, and if i record with Realtek then there is a very loud noise when i record music
even when there is no music and nothing is playing on the output.
I think that audacity doesnt work on my machine
maybe my MB doesent support it.
Gigabyte M52L-S3 running AMD athlon 3500+
2 gigs o ram
