Lamebib-carbon not found by computer after download
I have a Mac power book G4 10.4.10 operating system. I downloaded the 1.2.6 Audacity and seems to work fine. It is the lamebib-carbon that downloaded okay but is apparently not being read by my computer as when I go to configure under Preferences so that it can export to mp3 it shows as grey in its location. I've tried it from my desktop and putting it in my Applications....I also downloaded the libmp3lame-osx-universal and it doesn't read either. Is there something I'm doing wrong are these mp3 exporters not compatible? Thanks for any help you can give me.

The computer is reading it but not Audacity. Audacity is looking for a file called LameLib which is what you get when you decompress the download file.

Re: Lamebib-carbon not found by computer after download
Sorry, that's the wrong version.
You should download...
libmp3lame-osx-universal-3.97.zip
...and uncompress it into the file(s) that then Audacity should recognize.
It helps when you get lost to tell MacOS to show you file extensions.
Desktop > Finder > Preferences > Advanced
If you don't know you downloaded a ZIP file, you will never know you need to unzip it to get the files that Audacity needs.

Re: Lamebib-carbon not found by computer after download
Thanks, Koz...but I did download the osx univerasal and I can find it listed but when I go to click on it ..it goes >package>usr>local>libmp3lame.dylib (which is grey so no further) and never am I able to 'choose' it. It is now in my applications file. Do I have the right Audacity download? It works but I noticed from others' posts that it can still work but not be compatible.

This is a little to surreal even for me, so I stopped running and paid attention. You're complaining about a problem with Audacity 1.2.6, but you posted in the 1.3 forum. So half my responses are for 1.3 and the other half for 1.2. Is that Alice in Wonderland enough for you?
I don't have an install just like yours. I have an older 1.2.4, but I know the formulas.
You should have downloaded the PPC English 1.2.6 file like this:
audacity-macosx-ppc-1.2.6.dmg
Double click that and it should give you all the right program and support files. Pile them all in a fresh Audacity folder under /Applications. That's slightly different from the way they want you to install Audacity, but it works for me and it's neat and orderly.
Then download:
LameLib-Carbon.sit which is an older Stuffit compressed file. Unstuff it (double click) and it should give you a file called LameLib. Drag that to your /Applications/Audacity/Plug-Ins folder. See if Audacity can "see" it if you point to it with with Audacity > Preferences > File Formats > MP3 Export Setup > Find Library.
If it's still no joy in muddvile, then we may have to find another way to unstuff the SIT file.
By the way,do you have it so you an see all the file extensions? Desktop > Finder > Preferences > Advanced > Show All. This makes troubleshooting much easier when you can see all the file types by just looking at the filename.

News Flash. I'm retracing my steps and one of the filetypes is wrong.
LameLib-Carbon-3.91.sit
I think that's the latest version. I'm going to see if I can take the process to completion just like you would have to.

Yup. I took it all the way through to installing and running it. The SIT file opens with Stuffit-Expander.app and extracts the LameLib file which imports into Audacity perfectly.

Re: Lamebib-carbon not found by computer after download
As I said in my first post, this is what I initially did and I just tried again and it still does not work....Don't know what's wrong so are there any other suggestions? I'm stumped

Re: Lamebib-carbon not found by computer after download
My machine is running 1.2.4, not 1.2.6. I've been avoiding the upgrade because my machine works as it is. I'd have to tear down the existing install, save all the install images and put it all back together again. Mine is having troubles with USB audio (imagine my surprise) and the upgrade might be warranted.

I believe you, but how is this an Audacity problem?
