EFFECTS WILL NOT OPEN
I have only recently installed Audacity,mainly to edit ripped mp3 .IN several cases I wanted to use a FADE between chapters,but when selectig EFFECTS the dropdown was only grey.I am unable to activate or apply any of the EFFECTS available.What do I need to do to correct this situation?

Select some audio. Audacity effects only work when there is audio selected to work on.

Hallo to everybody,
I have the same problem; the effects menu is not opening even though am playing some audio through Audacity. The audio is a previously recorded file saved on the computer in WAV format. Please advise on how to sort this out.

In addition to having to select some (or all) of a track, Audacity has to be in stop mode - if the file is playing or is paused, effects are not available. Audacity cannot apply effects in real time.
