Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

It says: error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.

You have contradictory complaints.

If Audacity can't Append Record, where did the original track come from? Typically, it's a really bad idea to mix and match different sound tracks.

oh i thought append record was when you try to record on a recording without getting it smashed together (I want it to continue recording at the end of the recording, without having to scroll all the way to the end and clicking it and then press record).

sorry i wasn't clear in my question. When I save an .aud file and then try to keep recording on the file, it records on top of the existing recording instead of on the end of it. How do u make the latter happen?

I tried two different things in Audacity 1.3.12 on my MacBook Pro.

I made a simple recording and pressed Stop. I pressed Shift-R and Audacity put my new voice right on the end of the current recording no matter where my cursor is. I did it several more times and in each case, I got a new voice at the end of the old show.

I Saved The Project and closed the work window (but not Audacity).

File > Open and my saved performance arrived. Shift-R and I put a new voice at the end of the old Project.

I was doing this simple test with the built-in microphone of the Mac. So step by step, if you try that, where does it fail?

it worked on a new file, but i guess the other file was damaged somehow and didn't work on that.

Also, how do you replay from the last append record, not from the beginning?

End the cursor before you Append. When you're done, playback should start from the Append point.
