Keep forgetting to stop my recording
I forget to stop recording sometimes and leave it on and it makes the Computer fan go fast. Is there a way to make it record only when there is voice speaking?

Audacity > Preferences > Recording > Sound Activated Recording.

By the way, I predict [holding fingers to forehead] that this isn't going to work for you. If you routinely forget to stop a recording to the point where your Mac goes into High Fan Seizure, then you're typically not doing a formal recording with a good quiet room, good microphone, highly paid performer, and clear, noise free placement. All those are required to get Voice Activated Recording to work (except the performer part).
If you have a surveillance type recording with fuzzy low voices and high background noise, VAR is going to drive you nuts. It will trigger on multiple false positives and miss actual conversations.
