Non functioning Pause Button when recording

Hi Gale and Koz,, Great news, pause button works fine now. After reading every reply I had I decided to uninstall my copy of Audacity and try another source for downloading, which I did and hey presto all is well again. Whether choosing another site for downloading made any difference I for one do not know, nor do I care, it just works now and that's fine by me. Thanks to you guys for all your help.

You just threw some mud in the game. Macs will not record live or downloading audio without some other provision like additional hardware or special purpose software. Either could easily be what's causing the problem.

jumbuck70 can speak for himself, but as he was recording LP tracks I guess he meant downloading the Audacity software from somewhere else. Can you confirm if this is a USB turntable, as Koz asked? This could be simply an intermittent problem and it might come back. In that case, something like replacing the USB cable might be enough to fix it.
