Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

LAME help.

Post by kriisten » Mon Feb 25, 2008 10:53 pm

alright, so i have audactiy on my pc but wanted it on my macbook.
i downloaded the first one seen here (http://audacityteam.org/download/mac), audacity 1.2.6 is that the one i should be using?
so after that was downloaded i knew that i needed LAME.
which one would i use? (http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/)
i downloaded both to see which one would work and neither did.
i got a message 'could not open mp3 encoding library.
anyone care to help.
i'm a big fan of screenshots so that would be cool if someone could get some up walking me through this whole thing. from which audacity to download to using the LAME library.
thanks a bunch.

Close. The MacBook has an Intel processor inside and should use Audacity 1.2.5.

audacity-macosx-intel-1.2.5.dmg
That's after you decompress it. This one may come down as a ZIP file and decompress to get all the operating files include that one.

libmp3lame-osx-universal-3.97.zip

I personally create an empty Audacity folder and drag that into my /Applications folder. Then, after "unzipping" all the working files and folders, drag the whole bunch over to that folder.

libmp3lame.dylib
That file should be moved into the PlugIns folder. That's where you tell audacity when it asks you for the location of the library.

Sorry if this is a little scattered. Caffeine deprivation.
