Line in lost with HD Audio

Post by colt » Sun Feb 24, 2008 4:38 pm

Hello!

I'm totally new to the forum, and i have only little problem - and not for me - only this is what i opened this new topic for. I need a solution for a simple problem.

One of my friends has a Realtek HD Audio codec on his motherboard. He used Audacity to record sounds from Internet Radios or Internet TV's. He can't do this since he has his motherboard (AM2NF3) with HD audio. (He doesn't speak English, this is why i ask this question).

I know that if the HD audio chipset is in 5.1 mode, only the microphone input is active at the rear connector panel. Audacity (i think) in this case can show a Line In source, which means, if you are recording from it, records the sound what the computer is currently playing. Now, he hasn't got a Line In source in his Audacity, and he can't record anything. Howewer, there isn't a Line In on the Volume Control Panel, too. All of this happened under XP SP2 :-) . Other sound featires (playback :-) ) are OK.

Please someone tell me what can we do with this problem, and record voices.

Thanks a lot :-)

If I'm understanding you correctly, your friend used to record real-time from streaming internet sources using Audacity, and since upgrading his motherboard, he no longer can do so.

In Audacity, under the "Edit" menu, choose "Preferences" (or CTL-P)

Under the "Audio I?O" tab (the left most tab... you may have to use the right/left tab arrows to see it), look in the "Recording" section, under "Device", and choose "Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input"

After hitting "OK", in the dropdown box on the main Audacity Toolbar, you should have a selection available "Wave Out Mix".

Selecting this will allow you to record in Audacity, anything you're hearing on your computer speakers.

Hm, the problem isn't solved with this trick. He can't see the wave out as a record source.
I adviced he that try to download the newest Audacity, cause i don't know wihich version is he currently using, and if the problem is the old version of Audacity, installing a newer one will solve the problem.

Hm, he installed the newest Audacity, has done the settings that you wrote, and nothing has changed.
