Hi, I am a new Audacity user (and not very computer literate), and am confused at the start of the setting up procedure. I have loaded up the CD onto the computer and have followed instructions to the Audacity Preferences section. Under the 'playback' section, it tells me to enter (in the device section), SOUND MAX HD AUDIO? When clicking on my drop down box, all it shows is: MICROSOFT SOUND MAPPER OUTPUT and in the 'recording' section under device, the manual says: USB AUDIO CODEC, but on my computer it shows: MICROSOFT SOUND MAPPER INPUT?
Q. How or can my settings be changed to correspond with the manual, or is there something else I should do?
Q. I have recorded one track and the and the programme seemed to record ok BUT I could not hear the track whilst recording or on playback?
CAN ANY BODY HELP ME PLEASE???
Thank you

Re: Audacity Setting Up Procedures
Audacity isn't responsible for the Manuals that come with USB hardware products. They are written by the hardware manufacturer and can be confusing.bluestriker11 wrote:Hi, I am a new Audacity user (and not very computer literate), and am confused at the start of the setting up procedure. If you are recording from a USB recording device like a USB turntable or USB cassette deck, please read our USB turntables page. That will explain that you set the Playback Device (in your case) to REALTEK and the Recording Device to USB AUDIO CODEC. Then you will hear what you have recorded when you play it back. The SoundMapper choices are whatever the default Windows playback or recording devices are at the time. It's easier not to choose those until you are more experienced.
If you also do what it says on the USB turntables page to enable "Software Playthrough" in the Audacity "Recording" Preferences, you will be able to hear the recordings while you make them.
Be sure to unplug the USB device or set the Windows default playback device back to REALTEK after you have finished recording. Otherwise you won't be able to hear your recording in Windows Media Player after you have exported it as an audio file.
