Hi,
I have a couple of tracks that I'm trying to align wrt to a specific section, or just the same spot on each track. I have edited one track, but didn't do a very good job, so I would like to cut and paste a section from the original track into the edited track, but am unable to figure out how to align the sections, or even the same place on each track. I've tried all the options under 'Tracks' but they do seem to do what I want. Can someone please help me?
Thanks,
...... john

Re: aligning tracks
Upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12, then you can use the "Time Shift Tool" (double headed arrow) to slide sections of audio left/right along the tracks.
A few useful shortcuts for use with Audacity 1.3.12
Ctrl+D = Duplicate selection
Ctrl+A = Select All
Ctrl+I = split track at cursor position
F1 key = normal "selection" tool
F5 key = time shift tool
Ctrl+T = Trim selection.

Re: aligning tracks
Thanks Steve,
I have 1.3.5 and found the Time Shift. It works quite well. Is there any way of aligning the tracks, other than
manually?
Thanks,

Re: aligning tracks
There is a function in the "Tracks" menu with various options. "Align Tracks".
In Audacity 1.3.12 it is necessary to align each track one at a time because of the way that tracks are partially linked together. This behaviour may be different in Audacity 1.3.5

Re: aligning tracks
Hi Steve,
I installed 1.3.12. (It looks similar to 1.3.5 in this regard.) I do see the align tracks function, but when I press it, it doesn't do much. I tried the other align functions but none of them do what I want, i.e. align both tracks to a place common to both (where my cursor is) or, align them to a common selection (which I've highlighted). I think I must be doing something wrong though, because I'm sure that these align functions are intented to do what I've described, and there are many many areas common to both tracks.
Thanks,
