After 1 or 2 uses, Audacity Freezes

Hi all,
Running Audacity beta version 1.3.12 on an iMac 10.4.11 OS X Tiger, with the intel, core 2 duo, 66mhz processor. 250GB HD / 2GB RAM. My interface is the Tascam M-164UF.

I always turn on the Tascam prior to the iMac. The first time I open Audacity there are never any problems. I can switch the number of tracks to 16 and recording for however long. Typically I have everything plugged into the first 4-5 inputs so I don't overload anything. After ending the first recording session and trying to open a new file or an existing and press play or record, the time freezes wherever I've put the cursor. I can hit stop and move the cursor anywhere and it remains frozen. I have updated my Tascam drivers but no relief.

Any insight is greatly appreciated!!!

I haven't got any particular insights nor am I on Mac, but does it make any difference if the files you open are in a new project rather than the one you have already recorded into? If you use File > Open that will always open audio files into new projects.

If it does make a difference, then you could try the 1.3.13 alpha Nightly Build (take the latest "Nightly" towards the bottom of this list). 1.3.13 has fixes so that it can handle large numbers of tracks better.
