Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Distortion Problem

Post by JABUTLER » Wed Feb 13, 2008 4:31 pm

New to Audacity I have but two goals: Convert 78 Opera albums; when done be about half as learned as Koz.

Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger; ION TTBUSB05 connected via USB; Audacity 1.2.6. Routinely get distortion, audible while recording even to me with but 20% natural hearing. Stereo at 33 rpm (45 rpm doesn't seem to get changed to 33 on command as it should). Input gain set to 0.7. Perhaps this too high, but it is not clear to me what is normal. No other Mac apps active. Clipping indicators at far right of vu-meters don't light up. Exporting as WAV to iTunes. Have tried changing USB port to no avail.

All I want for springtime is pure sound coming out of Mac to stereo tuner via wireless. Any suggestions appreciated. Fledermaus awaits.

Thanks, but let's get it to work first.

Step one, abandon the USB service.

After you get that to work, get a young woman (which group tends to have weapons-grade good hearing) listen to your transfers. Cheap, inexpensive turntables that don't cost very much tend to cut corners on motor speed accuracy and tracking configuration (wow, flutter, and distortion).

If that happens, when we need to get your original turntable out of the attic and connect that.

That's a different formula.

Solved!

The recommended young lady, my spouse with two well-tuned ears, gave the Strauss overture a test for quality of sound. Lily Pons got a thumbs up. And you get the same and prayers of gratefulness from me. And the digital camera gets its USB port back.

Thank you.
