Filtering out noises
Well, as ashamed as I am to say, because I wasn't thinking and I'm a new user of Audacity, I made a terrible mistake. I was doing an interview using my laptop to both record and take notes at the same time, and to my horror, I discovered that a large portion of my recording was typing noises. The recording is fairly crucial and the settings were all default. Does anyone have any way that I can remedy this stupid mistake or lessen it?

Re: Filtering out noises
If you had a single microphone for the interview or were using the microphone built into the laptop, then the show is probably toast. The noise elimination software only works with steady noises like an air conditioner whine or hum. There is software that can isolate voices from musical instruments in a show, but they only work in stereo.
Someone will correct me, but I think your typing is now a performer in your show.

Re: Filtering out noises
How loud are the typing sounds, compared to the speaking through the mic? If the typing is much quieter, then you may be able to filter it out. Or you could look at how it shows up on a spectrum analyzer, and try to set a notch filter to remove that particular frequency.

Re: Filtering out noises
And Steve wrote a good noise gate.

Sounds lower than a certain volume are suppressed.
All worth a shot, but don't bet the farm on good results. All these tools depend on very specific noises in the show or very specific conditions. Programmers don't do well with high chaos.
