I have adobe audition and audacity. I am trying to create some instructions for some users to post audio files to our website.
This will involved changing rates of existing sound from 16 Khz or even 22 Khz down to 11 Khz. These are voice only files and the best sound (to me anyways) is at 16 kbps 16 bit mono and 11 Khz
Now I realize when one does this the audio changes, there is an effect on the audio. (Ie is sounds lower)One can fix this by then playing around with the speed. However in adobe audition it seems to do it one step, but it actually two steps, but the program handles it automatically.
Is it possible to get it as one step in audacity? Or at least put it in as a suggestion?
Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?
Thank you

1) Open the audio file
2) Convert to mono if necessary
3) Set the project rate in the "Selection Toolbar" to the desired sample rate (16000 Hz)
4) "File->Export"
5) Check that the selected export file type and options are as you require them to be.
6) Click "Save"

Re: project rate change 1 step?
Why would I want to follow your instructions
1)The output is not what I want. 11khz
2)As mentioned before, before exporting and after changing the sample rate one has to change the pitch and tempo so it will sound correct. Your instructions do not solve the problem of this additional step nor do they even address them.
Or am I missing something?

Because it answers your question?kieranmullen wrote:Why would I want to follow your instructions
I said:kieranmullen wrote:1)The output is not what I want. 11khz
"3) Set the project rate in the "Selection Toolbar" to the desired sample rate (16000 Hz)"
The "(16000 Hz)" was an example from one of the presets. 11000 Hz is not a preset, but if you want 11000 Hz you can simply type it in rather than selecting it from the presets.

Try using advice rather than criticising it, follow the steps in the example and you will see that it works.
You're missing something. Try it.kieranmullen wrote: Your instructions do not solve the problem of this additional step nor do they even address them.Or am I missing something?
If you are wanting to get the file size as small as possible you could try "speex" (http://www.speex.org/). (Note that speexs is not directly supported by Audacity, but you can use an application such as speexdrop to convert between spx and wav - http://www.rarewares.org/others.php#speexdrop)

Re: project rate change 1 step?
I did try it and the audio came out as I predicted. A tempo and pitch correction is needed.
I need 11khz as it is the lowest sampling rate supported by flash.
Thank you

Re: project rate change 1 step?
I think that you are probably trying to change the project rate (step 4) in the wrong place - it's the number in the "Selection Toolbar" that you need to change. ... just a sec, I'll make a screen shot of it:kieranmullen wrote:I did try it and the audio came out as I predicted.
