Do I understand your question - You're trying to open a "read me" file in Audacity in order to read it?? It's a text file, use Notepad or Wordpad.

If you just double click on the README file it will probably open in Notepad. However it is a bit difficult to read in Notepad because of the formatting, so better to open in WordPad. (You can even open it in MS Word if you like).

Once you have registered and gone to the appropriate board, simply click on the "New Topic" button

Recovering data after a crash is far from perfect and sometimes just doesn't work, however if you want to give it a go there's information about how to do it here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... shRecovery
