Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Macs can do odd things like this if you used messy characters in your filename or meta-data text entry boxes. Did you save the show with a date? PolySci101-4/9/10.wav? That will drive Audacity nuts. you can't use slash marks inside a filename.

Upper and lower case letters, numbers, underscore, and dash are the only safe characters for filenames. I use the international version of dates. Today is 20100422.

You didn't actually say you had sound files. Do you? Audacity Projects are not sound files. They're show managers and you can't move them, either to another computer or even to another folder.

Thanks for that advice.
I had noticed when I am trying to save , and am typing the name I want to give the file, audacity would just start playing by the recording by it self (ie. one of the keys I was using to name the file, initiated the play button). NOTE: All my names are numbers or letters!

RE: moving ".aup" files: I may be guilty of this sin!
I repent. How can I repair a file I have moved? / find where it should have been, for it to play correctly??

RE: Sound Files ".aup" files are not "sound files":
So when I record an audacity file w/".aup" format, the next step would be NOT to save as ".aup", but in fact EXPORT as another (e.g. WAV ) format?

Thanx!

Back up one step. You posted in the Audacity 1.3 section of the help forum. Do you actually have Audacity 1.3?

Audacity > About Audacity.

You have some of the failures of the wrong Audacity.

Yes after all th eunusual behaviours of 1.2.5, I went an ddownloaded 1.3 (beta)
so at this point, I do have Audacity 1.3 (beta), which also acts relatively unstable -but that's a diff . story.

However my MAIN CONCERN is the files I had made w/ 1.2.5.
As I looked, I see a lot of "data" folders, with Hundreds of mini files that do work. But the related ".aup" file does not.
Hence my question regarding how to use teh Data folder material to get the ".aup" files to function, or just make new healthy .aup files.
Sorry for the confusion.

Still eager to get these to since I have so much riding on them!

<<<Audacity 1.3 (beta), which also acts relatively unstable -but that's a diff . story.>>>

Why is it a different story?

All the Projects and Export files you made in Audacity 1.2.5 should open in 1.3.12. The Audacity versions are compatible that direction.

Sudden unexplained computer insanity can happen when you start to fill up your System Drive which can be very serious.

From the desktop:

Go > Computer > control-click on the System Drive > Get Info.

What are the Capacity and Available values. Two numbers.
