No sound after exporting as mp3

Post by marrintp » Sun Feb 03, 2008 12:29 am

Hi-

I just got Audacity two days ago so I'm not sure how to really do anything. I had a project that was saved as an .aup that I wanted on iTunes, so I downloaded LAME, extracted it, located it, and exported the project as an MP3. Before I downloaded LAME I was able to listen to my project in Audacity, but now when I play it no sound comes out. The cursor still goes along the track and it looks like the data is all still there, but I can't hear anything. There is also no sound on the MP3. I have the Audio I/O set to sigma tel audio which I think is my sound card. Does anyone know how to get the sound back? Thanks

The Audacity Project file (AUP) isn't a sound file. It's an edit supervisory file and you can't move it or any of the other files and folders associated with your show.

When you launch your project, the AUP file goes looking for the _DATA folder and possibly your original capture sound files. If any of them were moved, damaged, or deleted, the AUP file will not find them and the show will go silent.

Always Export As WAV... when you want to have a safety copy of your show. That will produce a single, good qualilty sound file.

Do you remember where everything was before you moved them?

Thanks alot Koz. It turns out I had deleted the temp files or something, and once I restored them it worked again.
