importing MP3
I'm a new user to Audacity. let me 1st say thx for the people that work behind the scenes on this product. It's a great resource. I took a quick look through frequently asked questions and didn't see the answer to the following quest, so here goes...I'm a drummer that wants to slow down the tempo of a Miles Davis' Seven Steps to Heaven so I can figure out what the heck Tony Williams is playing. I was able to bring the tune to Audacity via real-time recording at the line in on my computer + decrease the tempo, so I'm cool with that but for future reference it would seem that I should be able to go to my iTunes recording and just import the tune; tried it but got a very short (10 seconds?) of loud white noise. Plz advise. Thank you very much.

Re: importing MP3
iTunes native music format isn't MP3. It's AAC and Audacity has no idea what to do with that. The desperation method is to burn a music CD and then rip that.

Re: importing MP3
Or you can play the track in iTunes and record it into Audacity.

Re: importing MP3
As an aside, iTunes can easily be set to rip and encode only into MP3.
