I have a few questions:
1.Is it possible to record from the modem port?
2.I can imagine using a cable from my phone headset port into the microphone jack of my laptop. Is this the best method for recording phone conversations? I hope there is an easier way....

I'm pretty sure this isn't what you mean, but did you mean, "Can I connect to an audio service by dialing into it with a conventional POTS modem and then record the result?" Yes, I think so, but the results are going to be pretty miserable because of the low bitrate. Go into the Windows sound panels and select "What You Hear" and then route that to the audacity input.

I can too. "Can I record both sides of a telephone conversation with my cellphone cables?" Probably not. Typically, you're missing one side or the other. You need to luck out and find a cellphone cable that is used for a headset with earpiece and mouthpiece, and then route those two signals to the "Left-In" and "Right-In" of your computer. Further, because of electronics restrictions, the microphone signal will arrive Mic Level and the headphone signal will be Line Level. Also, typically, Audacity will only capture signals from one or the other, not both--assuming you're on a deskside PC machine that even has both connectors. Laptop PCs generally don't have both.

handsets which have a headset
plug. .. Is there an easy reliable way to do this?
