M-Audio Revolution 7.1 -- No "Stereo Mix" or "Wave Out"

Post by ZipMsp » Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:25 pm

I have an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card and I want to record from the Stereo Mix/Wave Out/What goes to the speakers, but I don't see it as an option in Audacity. This might be an Audacity issue, but is most likely an M-Audio driver issue. Either way I have a feeling some people here would know what's going on.
Here are some screen shots:

It definitely looks like a driver issue.

I've recently run into some trouble like this myself with my Delta1010LT card. The newest set of drivers removed the ability to record the speaker output. I've since reverted back to the 6-month old drivers that work properly. I suggest you use a slightly older set of drivers.

M-Audio is nice because they'll allow you to search for older drivers when you go through their website, you just have to click on a check box on the search page to enable the older drivers.

I contacted them about my issue last week, but haven't had a useful response yet.

I am in the same position.

I bought the M-Audio Podcast factory recently, for podcasting. But the only source of sound that it can use for recording is the mic input (or the instrument input). I feel cheated - this thing is called the PODCAST factory, and you can't even record from the stereo mix! You can't stream any audio, and you can't (more importantly for me) record a skyope conversation or anything similar.

I have tried three different drivers: The driver that came with it, the latest driver from M-Audio's site, and an old version of the driver, provided at the website. None of them provides the ability to record from the stereo mix.

I am selling this useless and misleadingly named product as soon as I can, and will never buy an M-Audio product again.

Just to clarify, this image that you posted is where the problem lies:

There needs to be a second box in there for "Stereo Mix," but there's not. It's not selectable, because the option is simply not provided by M-Audio.

Welcome to the reason I don't use M-Audio soundcards, internal or external. Their Windows Drivers are HORRIBLE for exactly the reason you have identified. I got in touch with them about it, and they had no solution to offer.

They are fine on Mac, however.

Are we all by any chance on Vista? Vista, as I am gathering, doesn't provide "Stereo Mix" or "What You Hear" to anybody.
